'What dreams are made of' - Cedwyn Scott on life at Notts County and emulating Macaulay Langstaff

Cedwyn Scott has revealed playing at Notts County is what dreams are made of and he can't wait to continue his journey with the Magpies this season.

The 23-year-old was speaking ahead of Notts' National League encounter with Woking this weekend and explained his delight of being able to play at Meadow Lane in front of huge crowds and is hungry for success this season.

After initially struggling following his switch from Gateshead in the summer due to contracting Coronavirus during pre-season, Scott has become a regular for Luke Williams, featuring in 11 games so far this season, contributing four goals in those appearances.

Having started his career at Dundee and making his first senior appearance in 2018, Scott dropped down to the Northern Premier League with Dunston UTS before signing on a free with Hebburn Town in 2020.

Later that year, Scott was given a four-week trial with Newcastle United but was unsuccessful and eventually joined Carlisle United before joining Gateshead in 2021 to fire them to the National League.

When asked about if he is enjoying life at his new club, Scott said: "Who wouldn't enjoy coming to Meadow Lane on a Tuesday night and a Saturday in front of 10,000 fans? It is sort of what dreams are made of really.

"I have been lucky enough to play at all sorts of levels and it really makes you grateful at the same time."

Scott was one half of the Gateshead duo who joined the Magpies in the summer, with Macaulay Langstaff also making the switch to Meadow Lane and making an incredible start to life in a Notts shirt.

Whilst there were questions surrounding how well the number nine would get on playing in the National League, Scott explained having seen first-hand the talent at Langstaff's feet, he knew he would be an instant success, but he reiterated his desire to emulate his strike partner's form as the season progresses.

"Yeah definitely, I have seen it first-hand last season what an unbelievable player he is," said Scott.

"He is playing a different role this season as to what he did last season. He is more an out and out sort of striker, poacher, last season he was playing more out wide and running from deep.

"His performances have been unbelievable, eight or nine out of ten most weeks and hopefully emulate that shortly and get rid of these six out of ten performances that some people have been rating me and get an eight or nine like him."

This season has not only seen a switch in surroundings for Scott, but also a change in playing style, often operating wide and slightly deeper than what he was used to at Gateshead.

During their time in the North East, it was roles reversed as Langstaff operated deeper whilst Scott played as a more central figure in the Gateshead attack.

And whilst the 23-year-old explained that he would like to add a few more goals from his deeper position, he went on to add that he will play anywhere because of his love for the game.

"I just like to play football and be in the team and the gaffer has asked me to play a different role compared to last season as I was more of an out an out striker last year.

"But this season, I have been that hybrid of linking the play up and getting in the box and I think as long as I can do both and I would like to add a few more goals at the minute and get into more dangerous areas which the gaffer has spoken to me about.

"Hopefully I will see that success shortly and I am happy wherever I am asked to play."
