Camilla has taken up the title of Queen Consort after husband Charles ascended to the throne.
The new king gave a stoic first address to the nation as monarch following the death of Queen Elizabeth II yesterday, in which he referred repeatedly to the support of his wife.
Earlier this year, the Queen gave her seal of approval for Camilla's role after her death.
And it is an ascension that seemed unlikely when she and Charles first married in 2005, eight years after the People's Princess Diana tragically died in a car crash.

Camilla did not take Diana's Princess of Wales title and it lay vacant for 25 years, but has now been officially handed to Prince William's wife Kate.
Following decades of uncertainty about what title the now King's wife would take once he took the throne, the late Queen made a surprise announcement in February laying out the plan.
An official memo published by Buckingham Palace spoke of the monarch's "sincere wish" for her daughter-in-law to be fully acknowledged when the time came.
What is the Queen Consort?
The title essentially means "the wife of a reigning king".
Each of England's kings have taken to the throne with a Queen Consort, though on the flip side, Prince Philip was not King Consort but rather Prince Consort.
It is understood such a move allows for the bolstering of the woman in power.
But it can be assumed Camilla's role will be similar to her father-in-law's.
In February, the late Queen said in her address signed "Your Servant, Elizabeth R": "When, in the fullness of time, my son Charles becomes King, I know you will give him and his wife Camilla the same support that you have given me; and it is my sincere wish that, when that time comes, Camilla will be known as Queen Consort as she continues her own loyal service."
When Camilla and Charles first married, she was given the title Princess Consort, thought to have been done to give a softer introduction to a public still grieving Diana.

What does the Queen Consort do?
The consort role is to support the monarch in public life, something Camilla is already accustomed to after nearly two decades as a key part of the Royal Family.
As with all royals, there's an expectation she will never comment on the UK's politics.
The blueprint was set by Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh who held it for 70 years.
He offered constant support to the Queen and never tried to take the limelight from her.
Other notable royal consorts have included the Queen Mother prior to King George VI's death, and Prince Albert.
What title will William and Kate take?
King Charles confirmed during his address on Friday evening that heir Prince William and daughter-in-law Kate would become Prince and Princess of Wales.
It is not an automatic promotion, but has quickly been made official by the new monarch.
They have also inherited the titles of Duke and Duchess of Cornwall, alongside that of Cambridge.
William has also inherited the Scottish titles the Duke of Rothesay, Earl of Carrick, Baron of Renfrew, Lord of the Isles and Prince and Great Steward of Scotland.
The Princess of Wales title lay vacant for 25 years since Diana's death and was not passed over to Camilla.
A royal source told the Mirror: “The couple are focussed on deepening the trust and respect of the people of Wales over time.
“The Prince and Princess of Wales will approach their roles in the modest and humble way they’ve approached their work previously.
“The new Princess of Wales appreciates the history associated with this role but will understandably want to look to the future as she creates her own path.”
