Guardians of the Galaxy (GOTG) is getting ready to return to the big screen, with its third instalment being released on May 5.

The Marvel superheroes have already been to hell and back in the first two films and throughout the Avengers storyline. James Gunn, the writer and director of all three GOTG instalments, has repeatedly said that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3will be the last movie with the current cast, which includes Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper and other Hollywood A-listers.

Understandably, this has made fans extra eager to see the movie and say goodbye to the characters they’ve followed for years. As a little surprise to them, Marvel Studios released a teaser trailer during the Superbowl on February 12. Here is what it revealed.

What does the Guardians of the Galaxy 3 Superbowl teaser reveal?

The teaser starts with our lead hero saying: “Let me tell you something. I’m Star-Lord. I formed the Guardians. Met a girl. Fell in love. That girl died. Then she came back... And she came back a total d**k.”

As always, the teaser showed the humorous approach of the Guardians in the face of galaxy-threatening events.

As the High Evolutionary goes after his plans to create a “perfect society”, we learn that he was the one who experimented on Rocket.

“He didn’t want to make things perfect. He just hated things the way they are,” we hear Rocket say.

James Gunn had already confirmed that the third movie would explore Rocket’s backstory more as he wanted to make sure his story arc was completed.

Groot, who has been growing back into the mighty being that he used to be in the first film, seems to have left his toddler days and teenage angst behind.

As vibrant scenes of our heroes fighting together flash past, Star-Lord asks his friends who have now become his family: “Are you ready for one last ride?”

Those who have seen the Avengers movies will know that the Gamora in the third movie is not the one in the first and second Guardians of the Galaxy movies.

That original Gamora was killed by Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War.

During Avengers: Endgame, Gamora returned as a younger version of the character from an alternate universe.

So, her romantic bond with Star-Lord was abruptly interrupted. But, fans are hoping they will fall in love again in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
