Star Boston Celtics forward Jaylen Brown‘s historic supermax contract extension with the Celtics makes him the highest-paid player in NBA history.
The five-year, $304 million deal does not have a fifth-year player option, but it includes a trade kicker that gives the Georgia native a modicum of control over his future and a small fiscal bump should he be dealt during the duration of the deal.
The Celtics are pleased with the deal. It secures a homegrown star for the foreseeable future.
As a result of the hit on their cap space moving forward, Boston likely has a two- to three-year window to build a championship winning team — a problem many teams in the league would kill to have.
On a recent episode of the NBC Sports Boston”Arbella Early Edition” show, hosts Trenni Casey, Chris Forsberg, Tom Giles and Amina Smith talk through what the deal means for the Celtics’ future. Check it out in the clip embedded above!
