What does Jaguars OL Brandon Scherff’s projected free agent contract look like?

With Jacksonville Jaguars’ guard Brandon Scherff set to be a free agent this offseason, what could his next contract end up looking like?

Pro Football Focus has recently put together a projection for Scherff and the other top 100 free agents this offseason.

According to PFF, they are projecting that Scherff lands a one-year deal with $6 million. This includes $5 million guaranteed.

Scherff shook his previous injury history once joining the Jaguars, playing in every game during his three years with the team.

He was particularly sound in pass protection as the team’s right guard. In 2024, Scherff didn’t surrender a single sack and among all guards ranked fourth in PFF’s pass-blocking efficiency metric.

However, for what it’s worth, Scherff did not grade out all that well in the run game, relatively speaking, by PFF’s grading system, which of course, is not the be-all-end-all by any means.

At this projected contract, the Jaguars shouldn’t have much hesitation about bringing Scherff back. From the team’s perspective, this is a low risk, high reward type of deal.

As head coach Liam Coen mentioned in his introductory press conference, the play of the Jaguars’ offensive line has to improve, especially in on the ground, which can then have a positive trickle-down effect to the passing game.

Bringing Scherff back can provide a stable presence at that right guard position, create some competition if needed, and buy the Jaguars some time as they sort out potential long-term options at the position.

Lastly, one important note when it comes to Scherff’s contract: although he is a free agent, since the Jaguars restructured his contract last offseason and used void years to do so, even if he ends up playing elsewhere in 2025, he will leave behind a dead cap hit of $14 million, according to Over the Cap. That is unless a contract extension between the two is reached before free agency.
