What Didier Drogba did to Kai Havertz as Chelsea final heroes meet after Club World Cup win

Kai Havertz wrote himself into Chelsea history again as he scored another big goal to secure their first FIFA Club World Cup title.

The German stepped up in the 2021 Champions League final, scoring the winner against Manchester City in Porto, and he did the same again on Saturday.

When Cesar Azpilicueta's shot cannoned off the hand of a Palmeiras defender in extra time, it was Havertz tasked with putting Chelsea's name on the title.

There were no nerves as he rolled the ball into the bottom corner after a slight stutter had deceived the goalkeeper, adding another iconic moment to his collection.

"I was [nervous], I was to be honest. I mean it’s a big penalty - just crazy. I think it was good I kept the nerves and very happy," Havertz said of the moment on Channel 4 after the game.

"I was the third penalty taker. Jorgi [Jorginho] and Rom [Romelu Lukaku] they both were out so I was the only one on the pitch and the other players gave me trust. Hakim [Ziyech], Azpi [Cesar Azpilicueta], everybody they said you do it and I did it."

With winning goals in the Champions League and now the Club World Cup, Havertz is quickly taking on the reputation set by club legend Didier Drogba at Stamford Bridge.

The Ivorian famously scored 10 goals in 10 major finals for the Blues and he was present to watch his old team add a new trophy to their cabinet.

After full time, while Havertz was carrying out his post-match media duties, Drogba congratulated him on camera.

As he talked to Chelsea TV, laughing could be heard off camera, and as the frame panned out, Azpilicueta dragged a grinning Drogba towards Havertz.

The pair laughed and hugged in a moment that Chelsea supporters are sure to love.
