What Darwin Nunez did after spotting two young fans who had travelled all the way from Uruguay to watch Liverpool

Two young Liverpool fans were gifted a moment they will never forget after the win against Manchester City thanks to the generosity of Darwin Nunez.

The Reds well and truly kickstarted their season - until Sunday the worst start to a league campaign in a decade - with a pivotal 1-0 win at Anfield to take them into the top-half and end City's unbeaten run. Mohamed Salah's 76th-minute effort, latching on to a pinpoint Alisson pass to slot past Ederson, eventually won it, but to a man Jurgen Klopp's side were outstanding.

Nunez watched the majority of Sunday's win from the bench, with Klopp deciding to start the in-form Roberto Firmino upfront. The 23-year-old came off the bench to produce an all-action performance in just 18 minutes and could have set Salah up for a second, but opted to shoot instead.

Particularly pleased to see Nunez enter the fray were a couple of children in the stands who, according to @Watch_LFC travelled across from Uruguay to watch their hero. The kids were wearing a Peñarol shirt, that of Nunez' former club back in his home country.

And amid the fervent celebrations after the final whistle, the Reds striker made his way to their corner of the ground and handed them his match-worn shirt.

Despite a rocky start to life on Merseyside, Nunez is winning the hearts of his new fans and producing the kind of performance that earned him the £64million move to the Premier League in the first place. His strike in the 7-1 Champions League win at Rangers last week was number three for the season, which is far from a baron spell, considering the derision from those desperate to see the striker fail.

And with heartwarming moments like Sunday's, Reds fans will only warm to Nunez even more.
