What CVS stands for throws shoppers as they joke about drugstore's 'government name'

The full name of drugstore chain CVS has got people freaked out to the point it's been dubbed its 'government name'.

Although the 'full name' of the nationwide store has been known for a long time, for many it's just known by its initials.

So one viral video on TikTok has left many confused.

Int the video TikToker Nisa said: “I got this dry mouth spray from 'Consumer Value Stores', and the experience of using it is kind of, like, someone who’s in the middle of chewing gum is spitting into your mouth."

It didn't take long for other users to pile in underneath to discuss CVS' "government name".

One comment read: “And today was the day I found out what CVS actually stood for…"

Even a former employee owned up to not knowing the store's fullname (Getty Images)

Another who claimed they used to work for CVS and said they didn't even know that was the full name. They said: “Wait I worked at CVS and I had no idea it was actually an acronym."

But it was describing Consumer Value Stores as CVS' government name that really had commenters worked up.

One quipped: “Calling out CVS'[s] gov name has to be a war crime."

Another said: “I know CVS is blushing at you calling its full name."

Others praised the abbreviation of the name, saying: “You say that every time like that? Oh, I’m going to the consumer value store. Ain’t no way!”

CVS was first opened as 'Consumer Value Stores' in 1963 but ex-CEO, Tom Ryan, changed the store’s name to the acronym CVS a year after opening.

TikTok can also be a good place for employees to vent.

One worker implored people to stop using the shop to print out their nude photos.

CVS employee Mariah took to TikTok and revealed that she has seen customers printing off their private snaps at nine in the morning on the store's printing facilities.

Unfortunately, it means that she and the store's other employees have to see the full brunt of the clientele's private lives, the Daily Star reported.

This is even worse if an order is placed online, as Mariah has to sort through the pictures and make sure the right ones get printed out.

She told her TikTok followers of her dilemma, donning her red uniform and yellow lanyard for the video.

Mariah, from New York City, told viewers: "I don't know how many times I have to say this. Don't print your nudes at CVS.

"I do, in fact, see every single one."

The 22-year-old worker joked about calling out one of her customers in particular, commenting: "Please it’s 9am Lauren I can’t do this."

Some viewers were shocked to find out about the shop's printing service, with one commenting: "So CVS saw my daughter's entire birth.

"I left my sister in charge of pictures with a disposable camera.

"I had no idea until I went to pick them up at CVS and saw all the workers' faces."
