What Cristian Romero did to Hugo Lloris in World Cup final that will anger Antonio Conte

The World Cup final of Argentina vs France saw each country's respective superstars in Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi collide. Away from the international stage, the tantalizing duo are team-mates at Paris Saint-Germain and they are not the only pair, usually playing alongside one and another, set to clash in Qatar.

Tottenham's Cristian Romero of Argentina and Hugo Lloris of France also did battle against each other with both having been key members of their own nation's World Cup campaigns. Lloris and Romero competing in Qatar will likely mean Antonio Conte will not have them available for Spurs' Premier League return on Boxing Day.

Romero, who arrived at Hotspur Way from Atalanta, has missed much of Tottenham's first few months through injury but managed to recover from his latest issue in time for Argentina's clash with Saudi Arabia.

A disappointing performance though saw him dropped for the following game but he has since featured prominently in all of Argentina's knockout fixtures. Meanwhile, Lloris, who guided France to the 2018 World Cup title, has played every minute for Didier Deschamp's men, keeping just one clean sheet.

Although it seemed unlikely the Spurs duo would cross paths given their positions are at opposite ends of the pitch inside the first ten minutes, the pair came very close together.

Lloris went to claim a loose ball in the French box but was prevented from claiming the ball by Romero who was seemingly nudged into his club team-mate. However, on closer inspection, Romero seemed to glance towards the Frenchman before driving an elbow into his abdomen.

Lloris stayed down for a number of minutes with a potential rib injury looking likely in a challenge by Romero that would have certainly not pleased Conte who was likely paying close attention to the fixture involving two of his most important stars.
