What Chelsea's Mason Mount did as Man United's Luke Shaw scored in England vs Switzerland

Chelsea attacking midfielder Mason Mount played his part in a small way as England levelled against Switzerland just before half-time in the international friendly at Wembley on Saturday evening.

Gareth Southgate's side had started the match rather poorly and were made to pay as Borussia Monchengladbach striker Breel Embolo headed his side in front with 22 minutes played on the clock. However, just before the half-time whistle, a Blues duo played a big part in helping Luke Shaw score yet another Wembley goal, following on from the strike he netted in the Euro 2020 final against Italy last summer.

As the ball was chased into the corner, pressure from Phil Foden resulted in a rare Swiss mistake. After Chelsea loanee Gallagher received the ball on the right-hand side, his switching pass eventually found the Man United left-back, who put his laces through it and got England level on the night. All the focus was on Gallagher and Shaw after that equaliser, but some fans had picked up on Mount's contribution which in the end helped with the ball eventually reaching the left-back.

Shaw's shot could have easily been blocked due to Mount advancing into the box, and the ball was on course to hit him which would have meant that England would have been denied on this occasion. Thankfully, Chelsea's No.19 was quick enough to jump out of the way in order for the Man United defender to find the back of the net.

It was a moment also picked up by a few Chelsea and England fans on social media. Here is how a few reacted to the incident. @Amandjnx tweeted: 'my boy Mason Mount knew he had to let this ball go to Luke Shaw!'

@BramleyMoron questioned: 'Typical. Shaw having a mare then scores. Clever jump by Mount was it? Now get Pickford off and into cotton wool.' @ToxicAngel84 said: 'That there was a nice bit of team playing by Gallagher, Mount and Shaw.. Let’s hope we can bring it to the World Cup.' Finally, @Sophie_e_hill reckons: 'Mason Mount’s biggest contribution so far was leaving it for Shaw.'
