What Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel did for fans vs Middlesbrough amid takeover uncertainty

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has endured a difficult few weeks alongside supporters amid the takeover uncertainty at the club. The Blues are currently up for sale after Roman Abramovich announced his intention to sell.

Since the announcement, the German has been forced to field extremely difficult questions, with a resolution having not yet come to fruition. Despite the off-field distractions, Chelsea have been exemplary on the pitch.

The Blues have won their last six fixtures in all competitions and booked their place in the FA Cup semi-finals with a 2-0 victory against Championship side Middlesbrough on Saturday. It is the third consecutive season that they will appear at Wembley in the competition - a huge sign that there is more normality at Stamford Bridge than first appears.

Following the win at the Riverside Stadium at the weekend, Blues boss Tuchel attempted to show his appreciation to supporters following the final whistle. In a video shared by the official Emirates FA Cup Twitter account, the German was shown handing his beanie hat over to supporters.

The only problem was that it appeared that Tuchel instead awarded a Middlesbrough fan with the hat - whether that was a mistake or not remains to be seen. Despite the gaffe, the former Borussia Dortmund man attempted to keep his loyal supporters updated on the current takeover situation at the club - albeit with limited information.

Speaking after the final whistle, he said: "I know about the timescale [of when bids had to be made] but I don’t know anything about the offers. I don’t know how many offers, if they are serious or who they are from.

“I am not so much interested in the details of the process. I know the guidelines of the process. This is enough for me. When it gets crucial and decisive then it is enough that I know it."

He continued: "You know as much as me. I maybe know a few hours before. The offers are in now and the board tries to find a decision with the government as soon as possible."
