What Canada Did on Tuesday at the 2022 Winter Olympic Games held in Beijing, China (distances in metres unless specified):

ALPINE SKIING

Women’s downhill _ Marie-Michèle Gagnon of Lac-Etchemin, Que., finished eighth in one minute, 33.45 seconds _ 1.01 behind the bronze-medallist and 1.58 from gold; and Roni Remme, Toronto, was 24th (1:35.36). 

BIATHLON 

Men’s 4x7.5-kilometre relay _ Canada (Jules Burnotte, Sherbrooke, Que.; Christian Gow, Scott Gow, and Adam Runnalls, all Calgary) finished sixth overall in a time of one hour, 21 minutes and 46.5 seconds.

BOBSLEIGH

Men’s two-seater _ Christopher Spring (pilot), Priddis, Alta., and Mike Evelyn, Ottawa, finished in seventh place with a combined time of three minutes, 59.26 seconds after the four runs _ 0.68 seconds out of the bronze medal; Justin Kripps, Summerland, B.C., and Cam Stones, Whitby, Ont., were 10th (3:59.40); and Taylor Austin, Lethbridge, Alta., and Daniel Sunderland, Fort McMurray, Alta., 20th (4:01.36).

CURLING

Men _ Canada (5-3) won 10-8 over China and lost 7-6 in an extra end to the ROC. With one round-robin game remaining against Britain, they are currently in third place but potentially there are three teams that can match their record and only two berths remain for the playoffs.

FIGURE SKATING

Women _ Madeline Schizas of Oakville, Ont., qualified for the long program after placing 20th in the short (60.53).

 FREESTYLE SKIING

Women’s slopestyle _ Olivia Asselin, Lac Beauport, Que., completed the first run in the finals (16.83), but withdrew due to injury and finished 11th overall (16.83).

Men’s aerials _ Miha Fontaine, ​​Lac-Beauport, Que., was 13th in qualification with a score of 115.05 _ missing a berth in the finals by 0.44; Émile Nadeau, Prévost, Que., 17th (112.83); and Lewis Irving, Quebec City, 23rd (103.98) _ both also failed to advance.

Men’s slopestyle _ Max Moffatt, Guelph, Ont., was 11th in qualification (74.06) to earn a berth in the finals; Édouard Therriault, Lorraine, Que., was 13th (70.40); Evan McEachran, Oakville, Ont., 24th (40.90); and Teal Harle, Campbell River, B.C., 26th (36.05) _ all failed to advance.

HOCKEY

Men _ Adam Tambellini, Edmonton, who plays for Rögle in the Swedish league, scored two goals _ the second on a penalty shot _ and added three assists to lead Canada to a 7-2 win over China in a qualification-round game. They will play Sweden in the quarterfinals. 

SNOWBOARDING

Women’s big air _ Jasmine Baird of Georgetown, Ont. (130.00), and Laurie Blouin, Québec City (115.00) placed seventh and eighth in the final.

Men’s big air _ Max Parrot, Bromont, Que. _ who won gold in slopestyle last week _ added a bronze medal to his collection after finishing third with a score of 170.25 points; Mark McMorris, Regina, placed 10th (113.75);  and Darcy Sharpe, Comox, B.C., 12th (87.75).

SPEED SKATING

Women’s team pursuit _ Canada (Ivanie Blondin, Ottawa; Valérie Maltais, Saguenay, Que.; and Isabelle Weidemann, Ottawa) outraced Japan to win the gold medal  (2:53.44, an Olympic record). It was the third medal of these Games for Weidemann (silver in the 5,000 and bronze, 3,000).

Men’s team pursuit _ Canada (Jordan Belchos, Toronto; Ted-Jan Bloemen, Calgary; and Tyson Langelaar, Winnipeg) defeated South Korea in the C-final (3:40.39) to place fifth-overall in the event.
