Women’s Super-G _ Marie-Michèle Gagnon of Lac-Etchemin, Que., placed 14th overall in a time of one minute, 14.65 seconds; and Roni Remme, Toronto, was 24th (1:15.78).
BIATHLON
Women’s 7.5-kilometre sprint _ Emma Lunder, Vernon, B.C., finished in 32nd place (22:47.6 with one penalty); Megan Bankes, Calgary, was 77th (24:35.4, three); Sarah Beaudry, Prince George, B.C., 80th (24:45.9, two); and Emily Dickson, Burns Lake, B.C., 81st (24:50.3, three).
CROSS-COUNTRY SKIING
Men’s 15-kilometre classic _ Olivier Léveillé, Sherbrooke, Que., placed 29th (40.52.0); Rémi Drolet, Rossland, B.C., 33rd (41:07.7); and Antoine Cyr, Gatineau, Que., 37th (41:17.7).
CURLING
Women _ Canada (Jennifer Jones, Kaitlyn Lawes, Jocelyn Peterman, Dawn McEwen, all Winnipeg; and Lisa Weagle, Ottawa) lost 8-5 to Japan to even their record at 1-1.
Men _ Canada (Brad Gushue, St. John’s, N.L.; Mark Nichols, Labrador City, N.L.; Brett Gallant, Charlottetown; and Geoff Walker, Beaverlodge, Alta.) suffered their first loss (2-1) following a 5-3 decision to Switzerland.
HOCKEY
Women _ Sarah Fillier, Georgetown, Ont.; and Brianne Jenner of Oakville, Ont., each scored a hat trick _ tied with each other for the tournament goal-scoring lead with eight _ and Emerance Maschmeyer, Bruderheim, Alta., made 11 saves for the shutout as Canada won their quarterfinal 11-0 over Sweden. Their semifinal opponent will be determined on the weekend.
SKELETON
Women’s individual _ Mirela Rahneva, Ottawa, had the fastest first run (1:02.03), but dropped to ninth overall following the second (2:05.17 _ currently 0.6 out of a medal position); Jane Channell of North Vancouver, B.C., stands 17th overall after the event’s initial two runs (2:05.90).
Men _ Blake Enzie, Calgary, finished 20th in the event with a combined time of 4:06.88 after four runs.
SKI JUMPING
Men’s individual (large hill) _ Mackenzie Boyd-Clowes, Calgary, placed 18th in qualification with 115.8 points; Matthew Soukup, Calgary, is 47th (82.0).
SPEED SKATING (LONG TRACK)
Men’s 10,000 _ Graeme Fish, Moose Jaw, Sask., placed sixth (12:58.80); and Ted-Jan Bloemen, Calgary _ who had won gold four years ago in PyeongChang, South Korea _ was eighth (13:01.39).
SPEED SKATING (SHORT TRACK)
Women’s 1,000 _ Courtney Sarault of Moncton, N.B., placed second in her quarterfinal (1:29.450); and Alyson Charles, Montreal was fifth in her heat (1:30.161) _ neither advanced to the semifinals.
Men’s 500 _ Steven Dubois, Terrebonne, Que., won his opening heat (40.399); Jordan Pierre-Gilles, Sherbrooke, Que., was second in his race (40.488) _ both earned a berth in the quarterfinals; Maxime Laoun, Montreal, was fourth (no time) and did not advance.
Men’s 5,000 relay _ Canada (Charles Hamelin, Sainte-Julie, Que.; Maxime Laoun, Montreal; Steven Dubois, Terrebonne, Que.; and Pascal Dion, Montreal) won their semifinal (6:38.752) to advance to the medal race.
