What Brighton did for Alexis Mac Allister amid Chelsea, Arsenal and Juventus transfer rumours

As Chelsea step up their attempts to sign a statement midfielder in the January transfer window the Blues are expending most of their energy on pursuing a deal for Enzo Fernandez. The 21-year-old has a massive £106million release clause but that hasn't put Todd Boehly off trying for an ambitious winter move.

It was the midfield that struggled to gain any control of proceedings in the second half against Nottingham Forest and it's seen as a key area by Graham Potter as he looks to improve his options for the second half of the season. Jorginho has often been the deepest player in that position but has struggled consistently this season when pitched in fast-paced environments.

Fernandez, a newly crowned world champion is a younger, quicker and more technical option for that position but is by no means certain to join. One player singled out to be looked at if he doesn't join is Brighton's Alexis Mac Allister.

The 24-year-old only signed a new contract with the Seagulls earlier this year but his own performances in Qatar have seen him rise to prominence with several top clubs all aiming to bolster their midfield this winter. Mac Allister is on the list of possible players that Chelsea could turn to, according to the Times, and he has had a hero's welcome back to England.

In a video posted by Brighton, Mac Allister is serenaded as he walks into the club, surrounded by staff and teammates. As he approaches the Argentine flag with the World Cup trophy he lifts it aloft triumphantly and is showered by blue confetti.

With the attention he is gaining there is no surprise that his achievements have been recognised. Not only was Mac Allister the first Brighton player to win the World Cup, he was the first to ever play in a final too. If the sharks are circling for him than making him feel appreciated on and off the pitch will only help.

Especially as Chelsea aren't the only side interested in Mac Allister with Tottenham, Arsenal and Juventus all in the mix with one eye on the midfielder.
