What Bayern Munich have said about signing Manchester United ace Cristiano Ronaldo amid bombshell interview

Bayern Munich have previously dismissed the idea of signing Cristiano Ronaldo amid fresh claims that they have rekindled their interest in the Manchester United striker.

According to a report by the Mail, Bayern officials flew to England as recently as last week to hold talks with Ronaldo and his agent, Jorge Mendes, about the possibility of him moving to the Allianz Arena. The 37-year-old as thrown his future at Old Trafford into huge doubt after slamming the club and manager Erik ten Hag in an explosive interview with Piers Morgan.

First snippets of the extensive interview have been released on social media over the last couple of days, ahead the full, 90-minute chat being aired on TalkTV on Wednesday and Thursday evenings this week. Ronaldo insists that United have 'betrayed' him and that Ten Hag, who has regularly backed the Portugal captain in public, has 'no respect' for him.

Ronaldo wanted to leave United during the summer transfer window in pursuit of Champions League football, following United's disappointing relegation to the Europa League. Several clubs were linked with his signature but nothing concrete ever came to fruition.

Bayern were among the clubs regularly linked with signing the striker, as were the likes of Chelsea and Napoli. However, Bayern chief executive Oliver Kahn recently admitted that, although Ronaldo's name was discussed internally by the club, they 'quickly dismissed' the idea of attempting to sign him.

"We briefly discussed Ronaldo at Bayern and Dortmund probably did too," Kahn, speaking to SportBILD, said last month. "We also see the big picture of the Bundesliga.

"Of course, superstars like Ronaldo are an important factor in attracting attention to the league. He is one of the greatest of the last decade. But we quickly dismissed that."

Ronaldo, who has scored just three goals for United this season, will be attempting to put himself in the shop window during the World Cup, in the hope of a queue of offers forming for him ahead of the January transfer window. His contract is up at the end of the season, but there is a very strong likelihood he will be moved on as soon as possible, following his recent interview.

But despite reports suggesting that Bayern have recently held talks with Ronaldo and Mendes about the prospect of signing him, German outlet SportBILD have suggested otherwise, insisting that the Bundesliga heavyweights are not interested in securing his signature.
