What Arsenal players won't talk about amid 'crazy' Manchester City actions following derby wins

Carry the giddy smile all week, Arsenal fans. Keep it going because football is fickle. The Gunners won the corresponding North London Derby match by the same scoreline last season and will have largely forgotten about it now.

This feels different in more ways than one, though. After a derby day win, and a brilliant one at that, enjoying the moment itself rather than what it may or may not signify in terms of progression, a title challenge or being light-years further on than Tottenham is important, and it's what the players will be doing.

They had their day, earnt it during the glory of an early kick-off, and will have celebrated accordingly. Their warning came just over 24-hours later, though. The gap between Arsenal and Manchester City remained as Pep Guardiola's side dismantled Manchester United - the same side that are the only team to have stopped Mikel Arteta from winning this season - but the effect of the win felt different.

The gap is a small one-point and was never going to be smaller than that once Granit Xhaka scored to make it 3-1, but if a win was ever going to be worth more than three points, then being 4-0 up at half-time in a Manchester derby probably knocks politely on the door.

It shouldn't worry Arsenal because these aren't the levels they are being judged on yet. Right now, the process is simple, play football, have fun and hopefully score more than the opponents. If they can keep it that simple, then there is no limit to Arsenal right now, but Aaron Ramsdale is refusing to get ahead of himself. "We're a young team, and literally, we are going into a game trying to enjoy ourselves and winning," he said.

"Then we'll see where that takes us. This month, before the World Cup, we have three different competitions, and we want to win in every single one of them."

Arsenal are aware of this, they're not favourites by any stretch. Everyone knows all too well what City can do, and it's a grounding thing that Aaron Ramsdale thinks can help his teammates to stay concentrated. "We will see where we are at the break because, at the end of the day, we want to win trophies," he said.

"But we're eight games in. Something always happens with the likes of Man City. A few years ago, they were 14th at Christmas and went on some crazy run. We're just loving the journey at the minute, and long may that continue.

"We are just going into every game with a big smile on our face trying to win the game. When we win, we celebrate, and if we don't, then we evaluate it and go again."

It's the stock response but said with the same fanatical optimism and hope that all Gunners fans will be feeling. Let's only get the right amount of excitement, but remember we just beat Spurs, so actually, let's go big on the celebrations. To that extent, this is great, just what Arsenal need and deserves. Ramsdale's words are a warning, though. Arteta won't be talking about the title or even the mention of the table, just the tactical instructions and mentality that it takes to win the next game. Do that enough times, and the rest sorts itself out.
