What Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka did on live TV following battling win over Chelsea

Arsenal returned back to the top of the Premier League table with a commanding 1-0 London derby win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Gabriel Magalhaes converted Bukayo Saka's corner on the goal line to hand Mikel Arteta's side their first three points away from home in three games.

The Gunners have struggled on their travels more recently, suffering defeat to PSV in the Europa League and dropping points against Southampton two weeks ago, but there was zero sign of complacency or fatigue in Arsenal's play on Sunday lunchtime.

The victory continued the recent trend of results in this derby fixture, with Arsenal winning the last five of their six meetings, which includes three successive victories for the Gunners at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League.

Following the impressive win, Arteta spoke to the press and had nothing but praise for his young teams efforts.

He said: "Big win for us. It’s another step for us I think. To come here against a top opponent, top world class players all over the pitch, dominate the game and actually win it is very meaningful. Hopefully it will give the boys even more belief.

"We are a young team, but we showed a lot maturity today, a lot of composure, a lot courage to play on this stage the way we have played. That’s easy to say but actually very difficult to do. I think the boys were absolutely phenomenal today."

Despite the headlines likely going to Gabriel, especially after his winning goal and subsequent response on social media, William Saliba put in another expert defensive performance making former Gunner Pierre-Emerick Aubamayeng's afternoon a torrid one before he was replaced on the hour mark.

Granit Xhaka also continued his scintillating Arsenal resurgence with a disciplined midfield performance alongside Thomas Partey, while the front four all played their roles to perfection.

While the Swiss international was in control of his emotions for much of the game, in added time things boiled over, with Xhaka not allowing Trevoh Chalobah to restart play after the ball had gone into touch. A quick melee occurred with that duo at the centre of it and perhaps still feeling the adrenaline rush of that moment, the 30-year-old let an explicit word slip out in his post-match interview.

Speaking to BT Sport's Des Kelly minutes after the full time whistle, Xhaka made his feelings very clear about the tremendous Arsenal support, saying, "You see the atmosphere here, it’s f***ing unbelievable."

Kelly quickly intervened to apologise for the bad language before allowing Xhaka to continue where he did take a few seconds perhaps to ensure he kept things far more family friendly with his next response.

"From the start until the end, we deserved to win. We were much the better team today. We are so happy things are going well at the moment," added Xhaka.

"Listen, after the season, nobody asks you how you win in November, December and January. You try and get a lot of points as possible and after, let’s see where we end."

The Gunners are next in action in the Carabao Cup against Brighton at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday before they will aim to head into the World Cup break top of the Premier League table as they travel to Wolves on Saturday evening.
