What Arsenal fans chanted at Emiliano Martinez during victory over Aston Villa

Arsenal supporters jokingly chanted at Emiliano Martinez during the Gunners' Premier League clash against Aston Villa.

Mikel Arteta's men enjoyed a productive afternoon at Villa Park, enjoying the lion's share of possession in the first half as Bukayo Saka broke the deadlock in the 30th minute with a sublime finish - his ninth Premier League goal of the season. The north London outfit were without first-choice goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale for the trip to the west Midlands following a hip injury.

Arteta confirmed that the England international would be out for 'a few weeks', a huge blow to the club's pursuit of a top-four finish this term. Speaking ahead of the match, the Spaniard said: “He has an injury in his oblique muscle and he will be out for a few weeks."

Ramsdale has enjoyed an excellent debut campaign for Arsenal after signing last summer, registering 12 clean sheets injust 24 league outings. The youngster quickly usurped Bernd Leno in Arteta's starting XI, with the German previously battling it out with the aforementioned Martinez before the Argentine joined Villa in the summer of 2020.

And during Saturday's encounter, several Arsenal fans jeered Martinez in an attempt to put him off whilst some chanted at the 29-year-old, claiming that Ramsdale was much better. As per football.london 's very own Kaya Kaynak, they sang: "You're just a (expletive) Aaron Ramsdale", to the former Hale End academy graduate.

The Gunners went on to win the game 1-0 and further cement their fourth-place position in the Premier League as they close in on a return to Champions League football next season.

Ramsdale was named in Gareth Southgate's squad for the upcoming friendlies against Switzerland and Ivory Coast but his hip problem could rule him out of The Three Lions' outings.
