While Dublin isn’t known for its towering skyscrapers, the city is no stranger to impressive buildings.
In fact, boom time builder Johnny Ronan recently received approval from An Bord Pleanala after two years of trying to build a 22-storey skyscraper at Tara Street.
The building is projected to be around 30 metres higher than Liberty Hall.

10. The Tower Block

Located in the heart of Smithfield Market, The Tower Block stands tall at 43 metres in height and is a set of apartment blocks.
9. O’Connell Bridge House

The O’Connell Bridge House, or more colloquially known as the Heineken Building, is 12-floors high or 44 metres tall.
The building, built in 1964, is an office block located right in the middle of the city.
8. Central Bank of Ireland
The Central Bank of Ireland building on Dame Street attracted a lot of criticism for its height (45 metres) when it was first built in 1980.
The building was bought by Us commercial property group Hines and Hong Kong group Peterson in 2017.
The rooftop area of the building will be turned into a restaurant to provide 360-degree views of the capital.
7. Alto Vetro

Alto Vetro located on the Grand Canal Docks is a 16 storeyed lofty residential tower.
The building is 51 metres in height and was built in 2009 for over €13 million.
6. Metro Hotel Dublin Airport
This Santry hotel is best known for its unique curved front.
The hotel, which was built in 2005, is 52 metres high and has 16 storeyes.
5. George’s Quay Plaza
George’s Quay Plaza is a complex of buildings located right across from the Custom House.
The buildings’ striking pyramid shaped roofs are instantly recognisable from a distance and houses the headquarters of Ulster Bank.
George’s Quay Plaza is 59 metres high.
4. Liberty Hall

Liberty Hall was built in 1965 and is the headquarters of SIPTU.
Standing tall at 59 metres, the building used to be the tallest storeyed building in the country before it was superseded by the County Hall in Cork City.
3. Millennium Tower

Millennium Tower at the Grand Canal Dock is the tallest residential building in Dublin.
The building is 63 metres tall and was built in 1998.
2. Google Docks

Previously known as the Montevetro building, Google Docks is 67 metres and is currently the tallest commercial building in the capital.
The building was sold to Google in January 2011 and was renamed “Google Docks”.
1. Capital Docks

The Dublin docklands building is a 22-storey mixed-use development.
It is the tallest storeyed building in the Republic at 79 metres high and is the third tallest building in the island of Ireland.
