Hojbjerg's Premier League runs comes to an end
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg's run of starting every Premier League game for Tottenham when he has been available has finally come to an end.
Playing every single minute of all 38 league matches last season, the Dane has been a permanent fixture in the team under Nuno Espirito Santo and Antonio Conte once again this term.
Hojbjerg did not feature against Liverpool back in December but his omission from the squad was down to the fact that he was not available for that fixture against Jurgen Klopp's men.
Regaining his place in the team following his return, the midfielder's run of playing the full 90 minutes in every Spurs league game did end on Boxing Day as he was brought off with 11 minutes remaining in the comfortable win over Crystal Palace.
Not at his best in midweek in the 3-2 defeat against former club Southampton and duly hooked on the hour mark, Conte elected to start new signing Rodrigo Bentancur ahead of the 26-year-old against Wolves.
It is now down to Hojbjerg to win back his place and start another impressive run in the Tottenham XI.
Lloris' struggles
One of Tottenham's players of the season so far due to his consistent displays, Hugo Lloris had a first half to forget against Wolves.
Falling behind to Raul Jimenez's volley after only six minutes, the Frenchman really should have done better leading up to the Mexican getting his strike away.
Unable to keep hold of Ruben Neves' low strike which culminated in the ball landing at Leander Dendoncker's feet, Lloris then elected to palm away his effort rather than collecting it to help ease the pressure in the box.
His decision unfortunately resulted in Jimenez finding the corner with a classy finish.
Lloris also had a part to play in Wolves' second after getting a simple pass to Ben Davies all wrong as he hit the ball behind his defender.
The Welsh international himself didn't manage to clear the ball properly and it saw Dendoncker score from close range after the ball bounced kindly to him.
Although Lloris did manage to keep the score down in the first half with a couple of good saves, he will believe that he should have done better for their two goals.
What Conte did after Sessegnon substitution
Conte had seen enough after 28 minutes and duly made a change to try and get Tottenham back into the game.
New signing Dejan Kulusevski was the man introduced in place of Ryan Sessegnon, with the Lilywhites switching to a 4-2-3-1 setup as a result.
Sessegnon, who had been handed a rare start in the Premier League, was shocked to see his number come up on the board and looked extremely dejected as he made his way around the far side of the pitch back to the dugout.
The England U21 international was clearly frustrated about coming off so early in the match and he was applauded by the home fans as he made his way past the south stand and back to the bench.
With Conte standing in his technical area as Sessegnon walked down the touchline, the Italian made a beeline for his player and had a quick chat with him before giving him a pat on his back.
He was no doubt using the time to explain why he had brought him off so soon into the contest.
Rodon question
Very poor at the back from Tottenham in midweek in the 3-2 defeat against Southampton, it was more of the same when Wolves visited the capital.
Trailing 2-0 at the break, it really could have been more given the opportunities the visitors had in the first 45 minutes.
A loose touch from Davinson Sanchez did present Wolves with another opening shortly after the break but Lloris did well to deny Jimenez at his near post.
It was certainly bad play from the Colombian and it came following a poor showing in the defeat at Southampton.
Given Eric Dier's absence through a thigh injury coupled with Sanchez's last two displays, it has raised the question once again about what exactly it will take for Joe Rodon to get his chance in the team.
Conte did previously admit that the Welsh international is Dier's deputy but he has started with Cristian Romero centrally since the last international break and played Sanchez on the right.
Rodon himself will also be thinking about what exactly he has to do for a chance to come his way after watching the team's defensive woes over the course of the 90 minutes.
With Man City to come next weekend at the Etihad Stadium, Conte has a big decision to make one way or another.
Top-four concern
Tottenham wasted another golden opportunity to close in on the top four following a second Premier League defeat in a week.
The defeats against Southampton and Wolves now mean that it is three on the trot in the Premier League for the Lilywhites following their loss at Chelsea prior to the international break.
That could quite easily become four with Man City next on the agenda for Spurs, which in turn could make it six losses from ten games in total this year if Pep Guardiola's side are victorious next Saturday.
Certainly in a position where they can seal a Champions League place as other teams around them are dropping points, Spurs will have to make do with another season out of Europe's premier competition if their forms continues over the coming weeks.
Amid all the positivity in the weeks after Conte's appointment, he will be concerned about how things have panned out so far in 2022.
