What angry Raphael Varane did to Manchester United team-mates after Liverpool demolition

Raphael Varane and Steve McClaren forced the Manchester United players to applaud an almost empty away end at Anfield after being humiliated by Liverpool.

Liverpool's 7-0 victory over United on Sunday evening equalled the largest ever defeat for the Old Trafford club as the Reds moved to within three points of Tottenham Hotspur in fourth in the Premier League.

Cody Gakpo, Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah all struck doubles at Anfield before Roberto Firmino entered the action to add the seventh goal.

The Dutchman's goal late in the first half gave Liverpool a 1-0 lead at the half-time break as they came out to score six times in a jaw-dropping performance.

After Nunez struck Liverpool's fifth goal of the evening, the Sky Sports cameras captured United supporters heading for the exits at Anfield with the away end almost empty at full-time.

Erik ten Hag headed for the centre circle to shake hands with the officials before heading down the tunnel at Anfield, but assistant boss McClaren and Varane made sure the away end was shown some respect.

After Scott McTominay and Tyrell Malacia clapped towards the travelling support from a distance before heading down the tunnel, Alejandro Garnacho and Anthony Elanga looked set to follow them.

But Varane was seen bellowing at his team-mates, insisting they faced the remaining supporters in the Anfield Road end.
