'What a player!' - Manchester United hail Jadon Sancho goal vs Middlesbrough

Jadon Sancho spared Cristiano Ronaldo's blushes after giving Manchester United a 1-0 lead in their FA Cup fourth-round clash with Middlesbrough at Old Trafford this evening.

Just five minutes after Ronaldo, uncharacteristically, dragged a 20th-minute penalty wide of the target, Sancho, via a deflection, saw his left-footed effort beat Middlesbrough goalkeeper Joe Lumley at the far-post and bulge the net.

The England international had connected with Bruno Fernandes' excellent pass, feinted to come inside, before continuing down the outside and firing a low effort into the back of the net to mark his first-ever FA Cup goal.

The winger's third goal of the season was nothing more than what United deserved after a bright start to the contest, which had seen Sancho already clipping the crossbar and Ronaldo missing from 12 yards.

United's supporters were quick to laud Sancho on social media as he raced away to celebrate his maiden Old Trafford goal.

Below, MEN Sport has taken a look at what United's supporters have had to say.

As you can see from the messages displayed above, United's supporters are genuinely thrilled for Sancho, and hope that this goal can kick-start his career at Old Trafford into life.

He has been in and out of the team of late and he will be hoping that his goal against Chris Wilder's side will help him retain his place in the side, especially with Marcus Rashford and Anthony Elanga rivalling him for a place out wide.
