'What a man' - Man United fans react to Robin van Persie's classy gesture to persistent fan

It's been nearly a decade since Manchester United last won the Premier League title, and one of the major reasons for that win was Robin van Persie. The striker chose a move to Old Trafford over Manchester City and in doing so most likely stopped United's rivals from winning back-to-back league titles.

Sir Alex Ferguson sanctioned the purchase of Van Persie from Arsenal for £24million in the summer of 2012 and the act fractured the Dutch striker's relationship with the north London club. But with his performances for United, he gained a whole new set of adoring fans.

Leading the line for United he formed a formidable partnership with Wayne Rooney, scoring 26 league goals and registering 15 assists. He also won the Goal of the Season award for his volley against Aston Villa which ensured the title would be coming back to Old Trafford.

His performances certainly left an impression on one fan. Twitter User @UtdSweev started a thread posting a picture of Van Persie every single day in the hope the Dutch striker would send him a signed shirt. And after 119 days of posts, he finally got his wish.

Van Persie replied to him, apologising for not seeing the thread earlier and asking for his address to send him a signed shirt. United fans were quick to congratulate the fan on receiving a great gift from a player who provided them with such joy and also to praise Van Persie for his generosity.
