'What a journey' - Rocky Fielding calls time on his boxing career

Rocky Fielding has announced his retirement from boxing at the age of 35.

A former WBA ‘regular’ super-middleweight champion, Fielding has made the call just under a month after being stopped in a British light-heavyweight title challenge by Dan Azeez. Apart from Azeez, the only two other boxers to beat him were world champions, Callum Smith and Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez.

The 35-year-old captured the WBA ‘regular’ super-middleweight title by stopping Tyron Zeuge at the Baden Arena in Offenburg back in July 2018, but was dethroned by ‘Canelo’ five months later. Fielding, who also held the British and Commonwealth super-middleweight titles, retires with a record of 30 wins, 18 inside the distance, and three defeats.

Taking to social media on Thursday night, 'Rocky from Stocky' thanked his training partners, team, family and sponsors for all their help and support.

He said: “What a journey. Thank you to Boxing for all the memories. Thank you to everyone for the support and everyone that’s been a part of it."

Fielding then added in a separate statement: “Today am announcing my retirement from the sport. 26 years in boxing, from walking in the Stocky ABC gym age 9 just to keep fit for football to winning National titles.

“Dreamed of being a World Champion & fighting in Madison Sq Garden with Michael Buffer calling my name (and) that came true. Now for Life after Boxing.”
