2023 WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play: Sunday’s semifinal and final matches, tee times and how to watch

After four busy days in Austin, Texas, it’s time to crown a winner of the 2023 WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play at Austin Country Club.

After Saturday’s Round of 16 and quarterfinals, four players remain: Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, Sam Burns and Cameron Young.

Scheffler is looking to defend a title for the second time this season (WM Phoenix Open). Tiger Woods (surprise) is the last player to defend two or more times in one season (four).

After the semifinals, the two advancing players will face off in the finals while the two losers will be matched up in the third-place battle.

Here’s the information for the two Final 4 matches on Sunday including tee times and how-to-watch information.

Semifinals: No. 1 Scottie Scheffler vs. No. 13 Sam Burns

Scheffler became the first player to advance to the Final 4 in three straight years, and met his good friend Sam Burns in the semifinals. Burns beat Scheffler in a playoff at the 2022 Charles Schwab Challenge, and the pair went 0-3-1 in four pairings together at the 2022 Presidents Cup.

Burns led for the first seven holes of the match before Scheffler rattled off three straight wins on Nos. 8-10 to claim a 2-up lead. Burns fought back down the stretch with wins on Nos. 13 and 15 to tie the match with three holes to play. The pair traded wins on Nos. 17 and 18 before a Burns birdie on the third playoff hole sent him to the final.

Semifinals: No. 3 Rory McIlroy vs. No. 15 Cameron Young

McIlroy tied the record for most appearances in the Final 4 Saturday with his win over Xander Schaufflele, 1 up. Young defeated Kurt Kitayama 1 up in the quarterfinals to move on.

Young held a slight advantage over the first hour holes before McIlroy claimed control at the turn to take a 2-up lead, which he would hold until the 15th hole. Young then won two of the final three holes to force a playoff, which he claimed on the first extra hole with birdie.

Final match: No. 13 Sam Burns vs. No. 15 Cameron Young, 3:25 p.m. ET

The pair of Presidents Cuppers don’t have much history together on the PGA Tour aside from the 2021 2021 Sanderson Farms Championship, which Burns won by just one stroke over Young and Nick Watney.

Third-place match: No. 1 Scottie Scheffler vs. No. 3 Rory McIlroy, 3:10 p.m. ET

The consolation match is just as intriguing, if not more, than the final match. World No. 1 vs. world No. 3 is tough to compete with, after all.

McIlroy was one shot clear of Scheffler at last year’s Tour Championship after Scheffler was three ahead of McIlroy for his Masters win earlier in the season. The two have a developing history of must-watch clashes and Sunday afternoon should be more of the same.
