WFAN hosts blast Giants QB Daniel Jones: ‘That guy is a flatliner’

Last year at this time, the New York Giants hitched their wagon to quarterback Daniel Jones by signing him to a four-year, $160 million contract extension.

According to hosts Boomer Esiason and Gregg Giannotti on WFAN, New York’s sports talk radio station, they might want to unhitch their wagon going forward.

During a conversation about top NFL quarterbacks who have ‘the look’ that instills confidence in a team and their fans, Boomer could not give Jones a thumbs up.

“Uh, no. sorry,” Boomer said, to which Gio agreed.

“There were many times after those interviews that he was just steps away going back into the locker room and we were like, ‘Man, that guy is a flatliner,'” Gio said. “He just is. He doesn’t have that personality.”

The Giants fell in love with Jones back in 2019 because he possessed similar personality traits to those of Eli Manning. They took him sixth overall in the NFL draft that year and his career has been a roller coaster ride that has seen more downs than ups.

“That’s the personality the Giants wanted,” Boomer said. “When Eli was here, he was a flatliner, but now he’s one of the funniest guys on TV.
But there were different circumstances.”

There’s nothing funny about Jones. His career has been filled with disappointing moments and interrupted by serious injuries. Last season he missed nine games with neck and knee injuries.

The Giants are back drafting in the top 10 again this year after a 6-11 disaster of a season in 2023. Ironically, they have the sixth pick again.

This year’s draft has a slew of quarterback talent that should have the Giants thinking hard about delving into. They can be rid of Jones after this season due to an ‘out’ in his contract.

Many fans would like to see the team head in that direction.
