The exact circumstances of the accident have not yet been confirmed, however, it’s believed the man was working on his own land with a tractor when the accident occurred.
Emergency services attended the scene but unfortunately the man was pronounced dead a short time later.
Local county councillor Barbara Anne Murphy said there is huge shock around the community following the man’s tragic death.
“There was a farm accident. There is huge sadness around and local people are in shock. People are numb. It is so tragic for the man and his family,” Cllr Murphy told The Star, and offered her deepest condolences to the man’s family.
Meanwhile, people paid their condolences online to the deceased man’s family with one person writing “Rest in peace. Condolences to family, friends and the wider community,” while another wrote: “How terribly sad. The farming community get little recognition for the dangers they face in their line of work each and every day. RIP,” and another wrote: “Sad news. Sympathy to the family and friends.”
A spokesperson for the HSA confirmed that it has launched an investigation into the accident
The man’s body was removed from the scene to University Hospital Waterford for a post-mortem examination.
