Wexford boss Darragh Egan gives injury update on captain Lee Chin

Wexford boss Darragh Egan says he hopes to see captain Lee Chin by the end of the League campaign.

Chin is out of action currently with a knee injury though Egan is confident that he’ll return to the side before the Championship, while Kevin Foley and Rory O’Connor, neither of whom featured in the win over Limerick, should be available for next Sunday’s trip to Clare.

"He's just under pressure at the moment but we're hoping to have him towards the end of the League,” said Egan of Chin. “He's a huge player for us, captain of our team and he's the player that all the lads respect very highly but at the moment we have what we have and we'll plough on with that and as they showed today they are all made to hurl for Wexford.”

After an encouraging start to his reign as they saw off the All-Ireland champions, Egan said that Wexford won’t be pacing themselves through the League.

"We need to go all out. Again, new regime, new players, loads of our players haven't seen much action over the last few years.

“We need to go fully out for it, our side of the league is ultra competitive, we go away to Clare next week, then Galway in Salthill and then Offaly and Cork in March.

“We're going to be going after every game and we'll try and get as many bodies as we can into League action so we know if they're available for us in Championship action."

Limerick manager John Kiely rested players who were in Fitzgibbon Cup action last week, including Cian Lynch, though he suggested that he and others could return against Galway this coming Saturday.

He said: “There’s going to be a wide selection of players used during the whole course of the League.

“At the minute, we have some lads coming back from injury, we’re trying to manage some lads who are playing Fitzgibbon and freshers, it’s going to be up and down.

“The bottom line is every day these lads get a chance it leaves an impression and while they worked hard today we’re just going to need more of a return for the amount of ball that we had.”

He added: “Fitzgibbon matches are Tuesday/Wednesday this week so we’ll see how they go in that, we’ll see how they go in that.

“Brian O’Grady wasn’t meant to start today. He played a full game on Thursday, he has a full game on Tuesday. We couldn’t start him today, that wouldn’t be fair so we need these guys fit and healthy down the road.

“There’s only two weeks left in it now. We’ll get through the next two weeks and we’ll see where we go from there.”
