Wetherspoons pub in Nottingham vandalised with 'pay your staff' graffiti

A Wetherspoon pub in Sherwood has been vandalised with bright yellow graffiti following backlash over staff pay amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The Samuel Hall Wetherspoon in Mansfield Road has become the latest victim of numerous graffiti attacks across the UK, after the words 'pay your staff' appeared on the front of the building on Saturday, March 28.

The boss of J D Wetherspoon, Tim Martin, had previously told his workers they would not be paid any more than the hours they had worked after the Government ordered all pubs to close.

In a video to his staff last week, Mr Martin was seen telling them to 'get a job in Tesco', but the pub chain boss then u-turned and offered to pay all staff up to date.

Staff will now be paid for the next three months under the Government's scheme which allows those who have lost their jobs due to the covid-19 outbreak to claim 80% of their wage.

Speaking of the graffiti, Wetherspoon spokesman Eddie Gershon said: “This is vandalism, pure and simple.

“No one has the right to vandalise any of our properties. All staff have been paid up to date and will be paid for the next three months under the government scheme.”
