Weston-super-Mare ranked second-worst seaside town in the UK

Weston-super-Mare is the second-worst seaside town in the whole of the UK, according to the prestigious compare site Which? Researchers say the coastal resort, which is less than an hour's drive from Bristol, has been slammed with damning reviews by a number of visitors.

The reviews ranked towns from across the nation on everything from scenery to value for money. The overall 'customer score' for Weston-super-Mare was a mere 55 per cent - marginally higher than bottom-placed Skegness' 48 per cent.

As reported by Somerset Live, the beach-ranking data has come from more than 4,000 UK visitors, who have shared their thoughts on the many UK locations with Which? The consumer testing company has then compiled the reviews in a table, showing the very best and the very worst that the British coast has to offer.

And, of all the seaside towns from across the UK, Weston finished near the foot of the table. It scored poorly on every category, and even received the dreaded one star for scenery and value for money.

Here is a breakdown of the categories, so you can see how Weston-super-Mare fared in the battle of the beaches.

Beach

The first thing that visitors were asked to review was the beach. This is fairly understandable as it's probably the most important factor when rating a seaside town.

Sadly, Weston-super-Mare scored lowly for this category - with a sorry looking two stars.

Attractions

Next up, reviewers shared their thoughts on the attractions available at each seaside town. However, it's bad news again for Weston-super-Mare.

It was once again given two stars for the category. This seems a bit harsh considering the huge pier, shopping centre and selection of chippies!

Scenery

Weston-super-Mare got the lowest possible score for its scenery on offer. Reviewers slammed the Somerset seaside town with one star overall for this category.

Peace and quiet

Weston-super-Mare didn't score very well in this category either. The overall score for peace and quiet was just two stars.

This suggests that visitors were hoping for a bit more of a relaxing experience.

Value for money

Finally, and along the same theme as the previous categories, visitors were not impressed with how much they had to spend on their trip to Weston-super-Mare. According to the research, the average hotel rate in the town is £72.

The town scored just one star in the value for money category.
