Juventus and USMNT midfielder Weston McKennie has been backed over a potential transfer to Arsenal this month despite supporters questioning the move on social media.
Reports earlier in the week claimed that the Gunners were showing an interest in McKennie, who is said to be valued at around £26million. However, Leeds United have since emerged as favourites after agreeing personal terms with the 24-year-old, according to Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
Despite this, Arsenal continue to be linked with the former FC Schalke man and have even made a late move to sign him, Corriere dello Sport claimed this morning. Juventus reporter Nicola Balice has also stated that the player’s agent has been in London for a few days in order to hold talks with various clubs including Arsenal and Leeds.

As his son continues to attract interest, McKennie’s dad hit back at two Arsenal fans on Twitter after they questioned his ability to play for the Premier League leaders.
"McKennie is nowhere close to being technically good enough for Arteta’s side," one supporter said. "He doesn’t have the creative passing IQ, or the positional IQ. I think Musah is a better American to sign if they want depth for Xhaka’s position." John McKennie replied: "What are you smoking so I can get some!"
Meanwhile, another fan posted a list of the midfielder’s injury record and said: "NO! Thanks. Arsenal keep this lad away from our club." Once again, McKennie's father responded with a clear message: "That’s because he doesn’t complain about small injuries and goes hard until he absolutely needs medical! I can appreciate a lad like this on my team!"
It's set to be a decisive week for McKennie and although Arsenal will be viewed as an attractive option, the fact that Leeds already have two USMNT stars in Tyler Adams and Brenden Aaronson, in addition to American coach Jesse Marsch, could see them win the race.
