Westlife star Mark Feehily and his partner Cailean O'Neill welcome baby girl

Westlife star Mark Feehily has announced the birth of his first child.

The Sligo native and his fiancé Cailean O'Neill have become parents to a baby girl named Layla.

Sharing a photo of themselves on Twitter with their newborn, an overjoyed Mark wrote: "Baby Layla born safe and sound @ 7.27pm on October 1st 2019! We’re the happiest Dads in the world! x."

His fans showered him with congratulations with one writing: "Wonderful news. Big congratulations to you guys."

Another added: “What a joy!! Congratulations Markus, Cailean and baby Layla, a beautiful family”.

Actor Rory Cowan also shared his good wishes, saying: “Lovely photo. A new baby - time to reach for the bottle......champagne bottle. Congratulations.”

On Mark's birthday in May he announced they were expecting via an Instagram post of their baby's scan and a babygro.

He wrote: "Thanks for all the birthday wishes everyone, it really makes this my most special birthday EVER to let everyone know that later this year we will become Dads for the first time.

"This is the proudest moment of our lives and we are beyond excited to say it out loud!"

His Westlife band mate Kian Egan was quick to celebrate, commenting: "Such huge excitement here today.

"Not only is it Mark's birthday, but then for him and Cailean to share the news that they are having a baby.

"You gotta love this Westlife family. 10 Westlife babies now."

"I'm so so happy for you's!! I feel like I just found out I was having a baby," one wrote.

While another added: "Beautiful Mark, you deserve it. Happy birthday to u xx."

Mark surprised fans at a Westlife concert in July by revealing his baby's gender.

Mark has opted to stay private about his relationship over the last six years, only speaking about his partner on very rare occasions.

In 2017, he explained why he chose to keep his romance under wraps.

Speaking to Mail Online, he said: "He is not quiet believe me, he is far from quiet, but he has no experience whatsoever in the music industry and he is quite shy about coming to the red carpet.

"A lot of people ask me his name and it is not that I don't say his name, it is his thing to say and if he wants to be in a magazine then that's his choice."

While Mark and his partner, who is also Irish, are famously tight-lipped about their relationship, the singer has admitted that they've both been "broody" for years.
