The Western Daily Press Business Guide is published today - highlighting the challenges facing the region’s economy in 2022 and celebrating the successes of 2021.
It looks at how companies in the West thrived despite having to face almost unimaginable obstacles during the pandemic.
The Guide, which has been published for more than 30 years, reveals the region’s 150 biggest companies.
It also contains commentary from some of the leading figures in the West’s economy - including West of England metro mayor Dan Norris.
Headline sponsor EDF Energy reports on how the £23bn Hinkley Point C nuclear power plant project continued to hit its milestones and how it benefits the West’s wider economy.
Every business in the country has faced concerns about its supply chain - but those challenges are clearly considerably greater when dealing with one of Europe’s largest construction projects.
The Guide analyses key sectors of the West’s economy such as agriculture and aerospace.
It also hears from people at fast-growing firms such as Huboo, manufacturers like Renishaw and looks at those companies at the vanguard of the region’s tech cluster.
South Gloucestershire and Stroud College (SGS) tells how it is helping develop the workforce of the future - which is particularly critical given the skills shortage impacting parts of the economy.
Guide editor Richard Bache said: “Despite pandemic restrictions, supply chain difficulties, staff shortages and continued uncertainty the region’s business sector achieved incredible things in 2021.
“Tentative signs that we will suffer fewer coronavirus-related disruptions in 2022 hopefully mean the economy can flourish despite the threats that rocketing energy costs and inflation could dampen consumer confidence.
“The West now needs the Government to step up and deliver the infrastructure improvements that our region requires.”
