An award scheme celebrating the finest tourism and hospitality businesses across the West Midlands has opened for entries. The West Midlands Tourism Awards 2023 will celebrate achievement across 15 categories next spring. The ceremony will come after a busy period for the West Midlands during which millions of people will have travelled to the region for the Commonwealth Games and Coventry's year as City of Culture.

Next year's event will see a return for the business events venue category following the covid pandemic and a new category for the top tourism event or festival. The awards are free to enter, will be independently judged and are supported by the Business and Tourism Programme which is delivered by the West Midlands Growth Company.

The 2023 categories are:

- Accessible and Inclusive Tourism Award

- Ethical, Responsible and Sustainable Tourism Award

- New Tourism Business Award

- Small Serviced Accommodation Provider of the Year

The awards are open to businesses operating in the West Midlands metropolitan county, Cannock Chase, Warwickshire and Shropshire and the deadline for entries is Sunday September 11.

The gold and silver winners of each category will be automatically shortlisted for VisitEngland's National Awards for Excellence in summer 2023.

At the 2022 event held in June, both Library of Birmingham and Black Country Living Museum won national recognition.

West Midlands Growth Company chief executive Neil Rami said: "The West Midlands' tourism scene is in the global spotlight like never before this year, thanks to the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity presented by the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

"We want to use this next cycle of the Tourism Awards to recognise and honour the West Midlands businesses and individuals who went the extra mile to give our many domestic and international guests an unforgettable experience.

"We urge businesses across the West Midlands, from accommodation providers and events venues to restaurants and attractions, to log on to our website and get involved."
