West Lothian woman 'shaken' after teenagers steal her handbag and run off

A West Lothian woman has been left “shaken” after teenagers crept up behind her as she walked along a footpath before stealing her handbag in a terrifying evening incident.

The 23-year-old was approached from behind by the pair between Laburnum Road and Briar Gardens in Whitburn shortly after 7:15pm on Monday. The callous duo took the woman’s handbag, which contained her mobile phone and other personal items, before leaving the scene.

The petrified victim rushed home before reporting the incident to police, who have since launched an appeal to trace those responsible. Both suspects are thought to be around 18-years-old and wearing dark clothing at the time of the attack.

Detective Constable Laura Hanlon, West Lothian CID, said: "Thankfully the woman was not injured but she has been left shaken by what happened.

"Officers have been making local enquiries and checking CCTV from the area but would appeal to anyone who may have seen the incident or the two men in the area to come forward.

"If you have any information that will assist officers with their enquiries, then please contact police via 101 quoting reference number 2991 of Monday, 14 March, 2022. Alternatively, details can be passed anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
