Shocking pictures have been shared across social media of the ferocious wildfire that tore through the West Lothian countryside and has taken three days to control.
The area affected, covers 1 mile by 1.5 miles, and is near West Calder running adjacent to the A70. The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service last night urged nearby residents to keep their windows closed as the thick grey smoke plume moved in an easterly direction towards Edinburgh.
Many in Costorphine and other western areas of the capital reported smelling smoke from their homes, and the incident could be seen miles away from Edinburgh.
With the last two days in seeing a return of soaring temperatures of up to 28C, the risk of wildfires has increased dramatically. Similar fires within the city, East and West Lothian have been reported during the week so far with the Pentland Hills banning any BBQ's or campfires until the weather cools down.
Liam Bullerwell, who captured the scene unfold on his drone from around two miles away last night, said: "The wind was blowing the smoke over towards Currie/ Edinburgh.
"The photos were taken from a few km away so should give an idea of the scale of it. As I was leaving there were four engines with lights on heading towards it to help the four that were already there.
"I set the drone up close to Crossword Reservoir which is at the B7008 junction on the A70. I left at 6.45pm which is when all of the fire engines were heading towards it from the east."
