West Lothian vandals destroy local play park after sparking deliberate fires

The West Lothian council have slammed the "reckless" behaviour of vandals after a number of local play parks were targeted.

Officials shared that "thousands of pounds" worth of damage has been caused to a play park in Armadale after it was deliberately set alight.

Once a modern and large play unit, the frame and slide at Avondale were shown to have been completely wrecked, with charred and melted plastic looking ruined.

Now removed due to safety reasons, the council also explained that similar fires had been sparked throughout West Lothian, including in Broxburn.

Similar scenes were also noted at the Craigseaton Play Area, which has now also seen the outdoor gym equipment designed to keep locals active being removed to keep it safe.

Speaking about the fires, a West Lothian Council spokesperson said: “These are examples of extremely reckless and dangerous behaviour.

"The damaged equipment is of a high standard and it is not a quick or easy job to replace the damaged units.

“We’d ask members of the public to be vigilant and to please report any incidents to Police Scotland by calling 101.”
