A teenager has been left devastated after his first car that he saved up for was pulled apart by ruthless thieves for spare parts.
Dylan Laidlaw (18) was devastated to find his car smashed up with the bonnet and boot missing after leaving it parked in a train station car park in Livingston.
The incident took place in the car park of Livingston South train station where two cars were targeted.
Both were Vauxhall Corsas and had the windows smashed, as well as the front bonnet ripped off. Police are now investigating the incident.
The teen from Polbeth has now lost his no claims bonus through no fault of his own and is having to miss work to deal with insurance brokers and police over the incident.
The hardworking lad had worked overtime for months to purchase his car that he relied on to get to and from work.
Speaking to Edinburgh Live the apprentice scaffolder said: “I had to save up four months for a three grand down payment then I need to do so much overtime to afford the finance and insurance. My car got smashed up as well. I was out for a few drinks in Edinburgh came back to my car the next morning and seen it like that.
“It’s a 10 grand car that I paid for all by myself. I’ve not been driving a year and that’s my full year no claims ruined.”
He continued: “I’ll lose my years no claim I will now need to get two buses to and from work. I had to take the day off work today to sort everything and it now takes me 45 minutes to get to and from work.”
During the shocking incident another Edinburgh resident also had their Vauxhall car targeted and torn apart by the thugs and it has been suggested these are not isolated incidents.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 9.55am on Sunday, 25 September, police were called to a report of two cars damaged on Murieston West Road, Livingston. Enquiries are ongoing into this incident.”
