West Lothian singer will join Robbie Williams and Calvin Harris with Qatar cup final performance

A West Lothian singer and former X Factor contestant is joining the likes of Robbie Williams and Calvin Harris in playing gigs at the FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Garry Greig hoping to add to his growing fan base by performing at the final itself before the match.

Garry, who is from Fauldhouse and now stays in the Middle Eastern county, will perform at Lusail Stadium’s hospitality section on the day of the final.

He said he is “overwhelmed” after being picked to play three 30 minute sets.

Garry, who appeared on the X Factor several years ago, making it to Boot Camo, moved to Qatar three years ago on a two-year entertainment contract for Doha Golf Club.

Since then he has been gigging and playing shows seven days a week, gaining a very large following in Qatar.

Garry explained: “I will be playing at Doha Golf Club every day through out FIFA where the likes of Robbie Williams, Black Eyed Peas, Enrique Iglesias, Calvin Harris are all set to perform.

“I’m so excited, I submitted my profile and honestly didn’t think I’d be even in with a chance.

“This is just mad and overwhelming.”

Garry was discovered for his love of old school hits and modern classics, first Performing in local pubs and clubs where he gained a considerable following, which boosted him to performing on national TV and arenas.

He first found fame nationwide during ITV’s The X Factor, where in front of three judges his fantastic vocals and outstanding charisma helped him receive three votes.

Garry progressed through the stages reaching the last eight in the boy’s category and making it to the final boot camp phase.

He continued: “I played at my first festival in Qatar two months ago called Rockaway Beach in front of thousands. I am due to release a single at the end of the Fifa and looking to promote the song at the World Cup final day.

“I have been organising big music events all over Qatar and looking to start my own entertainment agency going into 2023. I will play three sets at the World Cup final hospitality section before the match.”

With 100’s of live shows behind him, and stage presence that belies his years Garry had built a large following across Scotland. The next move was into the studio. Learning the techniques and craft of recording. Popular covers at first, but as his confidence to perform his own material grew, Garry started laying down original material. His influences are wide ranging, with artists such as Stevie wonder and Motown heavily featured.

He added: “I’m as comfortable bringing a venue to silence while singing one of his ballads, as when the entire crowd is dancing on tables while performing foot stomper modern classics.”
