The 14th West Lothian Scout Group said a massive ‘thank you’ to all the young people and their families who recently joined them at its Family Fun Day at The Craigs Campsite in Torphichen.
Over 120 Squirrels, Beaver, Cubs and Scouts plus Young Leaders and adult volunteers had a full day of fun and adventure in glorious weather.
There were squeals of delight from across the site as young and old alike got stuck into tomahawk throwing, inflatable bungee runs, bouncy castles, laser tag battles, archery and much more. Judging by the tired smiles at the end of the day, and the hoarse voices following the campfire sing along, with everyone having a great time!
Mary Shaw, deputy group Scout Leader, said: “The event was organised to bring the whole group back together again after a long hard absence due to covid restrictions.
It was also an opportunity to welcome our new Squirrels to the Group.
“Squirrels are the latest addition to the Scouting sections and is open to young people aged 4 and 5. Our Drey recently opened and is only the 4th in West Lothian District.
“Last but by no means least, it was also an opportunity for some fundraising for two Explorer Scouts (Sofia and Tate) from the 14th who are going to Korea in 2023 as participants at the World Scout Jamboree, and three of our leaders (Anne, Alasdair and Amy) who are also going, as part of the International Service Team that help run and deliver the event.
“Smores, hotdogs, gorgeous tablet plus fantastic handmade soap and key cocoons were on sale to the attendees.
“Opportunities like this help reinforce the benefits and skills that Scouting brings to the young people, and to our volunteers so if you are interested in joining or volunteering, please look up your local group and see what availability they have.”
