West Lothian pupils dig deep to help everyone enjoy local woodland

Pupils from West Calder High School dug deep to help improve the woodlands around their school for people with mobility issues.

The students joined members of Community Woods and Garden, Polbeth and West Calder to get their hands dirty digging paths to so that people with mobility scooters or wheelchairs can also enjoy the great outdoors.

The work will also benefit parents with buggies or prams.

A spokesperson for the group said: “We would like to thank West Calder High School pupils for their hard work improving our woodland trails.

“When the work is complete our path will be wider and more accessible for buggies and mobility scooters.”

The Community Woods and Garden was established in 2013 by two local mums who wanted to ensure a green space which their kids could access.

Over the years the Community Woods and Garden (previously know as Polbeth and West Calder Community Garden) has grown and developed in response to the needs for the local community.
