West Lothian pupils are praised for their prose

School pupils have been congratulated for their excellent poetry skills.

Students at St Columba’s Primary School in Bathgate were presented with the Lt Col Gary Tait MBE Poem Writing Award for 2022 by ASA Forces Charity vice chairman Councillor Harry Cartmill.

Head teacher Luisa Daye was congratulated along with winners Filip (11), Harry (9) and Ryan (9).

Harry said: “It was an honour great to meet these young people and their headteacher. They deserve this recognition, we look forward to working with the school later this year.

“There is so much military history that bring’s us together, we must never forget our past, we also recognise what is happening in Ukraine today.

“We must maintain the values of democracy, civil society, tolerance, respect, equality, inclusive and diversity”

Luisa Daye added: “Our thanks to ASA Forces Charity for inspiring and recognising our young people and our school.”

Lt Col Gary Tait MBE was an “outstanding and inspirational” Edinburgh soldier who served his country for 36 years.

Sadly he died in 2019 after a brave battle with cancer.

His mum Joan Tait: “My son would be so honoured.”

ASA Forces Charity said it is creating more awards for schools and young people in 2023.
