West Lothian pensioner killed in morning crash with parked car as police launch appeal

Police have launched an appeal for eyewitnesses after a pensioner was killed in a fatal West Lothian road crash.

The 78-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene when his vehicle struck a parked car and a van in Blackridge on the morning of Monday, February 21.

Officers and paramedics from the Scottish Ambulance Service rushed to Harthill Road shortly after 9:40am following reports of the incident.

A red Vauxhall Combo is understood to have collided with a parked blue Mazda three and a white Citroen Berlingo.

The driver of the Citroen was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh for treatment as a precautionary measure, according to officers.

Police say they are particularly keen for drivers with dashboard-mounted cameras to come forward and share any footage caotured with investigators.

Sergeant Kosmas Papakyriakou said: “We are carrying out enquiries to establish the full circumstances of what happened and would like to speak to anyone who has not already been in touch with officers.

“If you saw anything that could help or have dash-cam footage that could assist our investigation then please get in touch.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 0745 of Monday, 21 February, 2022.
