West Lothian named 'one of the least happy' places to live in Scotland

A list of some of the best and worst places to live when considering life satisfaction and property prices makes for difficult reading for residents of the capital and West Lothian.

Glint, which is a gold payment platform, conducted research to try to find out where are the happiest places to live in Scotland.

To reach their conclusions, the business used life satisfaction data from the UK Office of National Statistics in order to measure how joyous certain areas of the country are.

They broke down the data for all of the home nations and found that West Lothian, alongwith North Ayrshire and Renfrewshire were the least happy places to live in Scotland. All three tied with life satisfaction scores of 7.1 out of 10, the Daily Record reports.

Orkney was found to be the happiest place to live with a life satisfaction score of 8.2 out of 10. Argyll and Bute as well as the Highlands came in joint second place with scores of 7.7 out of 10.

As well as overall satisfaction in terms of happiness, Glint also looked at metrics such as average property prices per square foot, average salary and crime rate. Unsurprisingly Edinburgh was named as the worst place to buy a house in Scotland with a score of 31 out of 100.

East Lothian and East Dunbartonshire followed closely behind with scores of 34 out of 100. Falkirk and West Dunbartonshire came out on top with house buying scores of 71 out of 100.

Read on for a roundup of the 10 happiest and 10 least happy places to live in Scotland. The full research can be found on the Glint website.
