West Lothian man is on a high after scaling Ben Nevis to remember beloved gran

A West Lothian man who lost his beloved gran to cancer has raised over £9000 in her memory.

Sean Moran joined 23 of his pals to climb Ben Nevis earlier this month to raise the money for Marie Curie.

The 20-year-old from Livingston said losing his gran Isabella law Moran – known as Isabel – in November last year aged 73 was one of the hardest things he’s had to go through as they were extremely close.

He said he came up with the idea of raising money for the charity and pals who had also lost a relative to the disease decided to get involved. Sean explained: “We were really close. We would see each other a few times most weeks. We are a close family in general.

“Since losing her I always wanted to do something to raise money to help the cause and also to make her proud as she was involved in lots of charities herself.

“She was a really religious charitable person who always put others first.

“My original plan was to run a half marathon but it took around three months to train for something like that so I had to think of other things.

“I thought of doing Ben Nevis or a 10k run so I asked my friends what they thought would be better and everyone said Ben Nevis and wanted to join me.

“My gran would have be so happy to see me doing this. She’d be so proud as she was all about charity and helping others.”

Ashley Thomson, head of fundraising, Marie Curie Scotland, said: “Well done to Sean and his friends for taking on Ben Nevis and raising such a fantastic sum of money. Their selflessness and generous supporters ensures anyone in Scotland affected by dying, death and bereavement has access to Marie Curie care and support when they need it.

“From all if us at Marie Curie, it’s a great big thank you!”
