West Lothian leisure staff's work recognised with success at Scottish Swimming Awards

Xcite West Lothian have scooped a top prize at the Scottish Swimming Awards after being named The Scottish Water Learn to Swim Provider of the Year.

The award recognises the effort and commitment of Leisure Trusts and aquatic providers in creating and delivering high quality Learn to Swim programmes which help children and adults become confident, competent and safer swimmers.

A judging panel considered submissions from all over Scotland with Xcite West Lothian being one of three finalists before ultimately being named winner at the awards ceremony in Edinburgh.

Xcite have been delivering the National Learn to Swim Framework in partnership with Scottish Swimming and Scottish Water since 2017 and currently deliver the full learn to swim pathway from Adult & Baby, all the way through to Pre-Club and Adult lessons.

Lessons are delivered at Xcite venues in Armadale, Bathgate, Broxburn, Livingston, Linlithgow and Whitburn, with the programme due to expand with new lessons being launched at the Winchburgh Sport and Wellbeing Hub.

Speaking on behalf of the trust, Karen Wernham, Head of Operations, commented: “We are beyond delighted to have won the Scottish Swimming ‘Learn to Swim Provider of the Year’ award, sponsored by Scottish Water, following two years of hard work where we were determined to come out of the pandemic swimming better and stronger.

“Our team at Xcite have driven the development and growth of our swim programme in all areas.

“This award means so much to everyone involved, and I couldn’t be prouder of the impact all of the team’s passion, commitment and hard work is having on enabling those coming back into our pools, to achieve their desired levels in a fun and safe environment.”

She added: “To be recognised by our Governing Body partner at Scottish Swimming is a fantastic accolade and one that we will remain hugely proud of for a very long time.”
