Livingston-born world champion Peter Wright is bidding for a second straight World Matchplay title this weekend.
The 51-year-old ‘Snakebite’ lifted the trophy for the first time last year and will be keen to repeat that feat and turn around what has been a largely frustrating season.
Despite sitting no.1 in the world rankings for the first time in his career, Wright has struggled for consistency since lifting his second PDC World Championship title in January and failed to reach the play-offs in this year’s Premier League Darts.
The flamboyant ace gets his bid for silverware underway on Saturday night when he faces Latvian debutant Madars Razma.
The final of the event, which is being shown live on Sky Sports, is Sunday, July 24.
