West Lothian changing room dubbed with racist graffiti branded as 'hate crime'

Police in West Lothian are now investigating an incident at a local sports club after it was branded with vile graffiti.

Officers are now appealing for further information after the site in Linlithgow was spray-painted with "offensive language" at the weekend.

According to a statement, the old Linlithgow Thistle changing room building at the Linlithgow Bridge playing fields was subject to the vandalism, which is now being treated as a hate crime.

Those responsible are thought to have targeted the building at some time between Friday evening, June 24 and Saturday morning, June 25.

Although the words used are not known, police have branded the graffiti as "racist", and have urged anyone with information to contact them on 101 as soon as possible.

Police Constable Anthony Hunt said: “Due to the nature of the graffiti, we are treating this as a hate crime.

“Enquiries are ongoing and we are asking anyone who witnessed the incident, or anyone who is able to identify those responsible, to contact Police Scotland by calling 101 and using incident number 1629 of June 25, or call charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
