West Lothian bar hosting fundraising gig for families affected by local fire

The Tower Bar is hosting a gig featuring local artists this weekend with all proceeds going to the families affected by the Katherine Street fire.

The fundraiser is set to go ahead this Friday (February 18) and performers from all over West Lothian have agreed to play to show their support - including many Livingston artists.

Tickets are bought at the door on a donation basis, there is no set price but locals are encouraged to give what they can.

A big donation has been promised from the bar, and any local musicians who want to get involved have been urged to contact the management at The Tower.

The Tower has been active in supporting victims of the Katherine Street fire over the last few weeks, dedicating a section of the pub to gather donations from the local community.

A raffle will also be held on the night to raise money for those affected by the Katherine Street fire.

The event was organised by local musician Martin Livingstone in association with other local musicians.

Fraser Brown, founder of Armadale-based record label and recording studio, Werra Foxma, spoke about the fundraiser, he said: “I spoke with Martin after a recording session not too long ago about the Katherine Street fire and how horrible a thing it was to happen - we chatted for a while and wondered if we could do anything musically to help out - that’s when he shot off to The Tower.

“Before I knew it he had organised everything with Frank McCallister, the owner of The Tower, there was flyers and a setlist and a raffle sorted really quickly, and I think that just goes to show you how much our community cares here in West Lothian.”

A raffle will also be held on the night to raise money for those affected by the Katherine Street fire.

Of the 24 homes evacuated from the blaze, there were 14 households that were rendered inhabitable, leaving 14 families homeless and staying in hotels or with family.

Locals donated clothes, food, essential items, and even cash to go to the affected community members.

Businesses also chipped in to help the community including Asda, Co-Op, Boots, Primark, Sainsburys, Livingston Football Club, Dunelm, and other local businesses.

Community member Fiona Macleod began a JustGiving page for the families on Katherine Street, which has so far raised nearly £9500 - nearly five times the £2000 fundraising target.
