West Lothian Aldi shopper 'runs out room to be sick' after discovery in ready-to-eat salad

A West Lothian woman said she ran to the back door and vomited after discovering a large moth in her Aldi salad.

The woman, who prefers to remain anonymous, took to Twitter to complain to the supermarket chain after opening her freshly made salad tub to be met with the dead moth, which was so disgusting that she instantly began to vomit.

She posted: "I think Aldi are just to give me a nervous breakdown this week. First got a massive bone in my sliced chicken and now this," accompanied with a picture of the insect.

The customer also said that earlier that week, a slice of cooked chicken breast almost made her choke because it contained a bone, something that she had never come across with Aldi, but admits it has made her question the supermarket.

Sharing a picture of what she believes is an Armyworm moth, the woman said: "I ran to the back door and was sick. I said to my work colleagues that it was lucky I opened it at home or I'd have been sick at work, I clearly have a bit of a weak stomach but you just don't expect it.

"My brain just instantly though what if I had eaten it, because you obviously don't take the time to inspect your food. I bought it from the Aldi store in Whitburn at the end of last week and then opened it on Sunday, it was just an ordinary ready to eat salad.

"Earlier that week I was also eating a bagel with Aldi's sliced chicken breast on it and was almost sick again when I chewed on a bone in the chicken. It's annoying because I actually like Aldi, but this has made me think.

"I'm a bit paranoid and it has made me really wary. I contacted Aldi on Twitter but haven't heard anything back yet."

An Aldi spokesperson said: “Whilst very rare, this can occasionally occur with products that are grown in natural conditions. We have apologised to Ms MacQueen-Fraser and would encourage her to return the packaging to her nearest store for a full refund.”
